By default, approvers are set to approve the defined groups in SMB (departments, locations, teams) but there may be times when you want an approver to only be able to approve the requests from one individual employee or only some employees within a given group.
To achieve this, the simplest approach is to create a specific team containing only the employees you want to give approval access for, then give the approver rights over that team.
To illustrate, let's say we want Bob to be able to approve only Ken and Karen within the Sales department. Here's how we would set that up.
From the main menu, click on the "Employees" option, then click on the "Add New Team" link at the top of the page to create the new team.
On the form shown, give the team a simple name like "Bob's Approvals" and click the "Add" button to create the team.
When you are returned to the list of teams, click on the "View" button for the newly created team.
On the "Manage Employees" page shown, click on the "Manage Team Members" link at the top of the page and select the employees you want Bob to be able to approve - in this case, Ken and Karen, then click the "Save Changes" button to add the employees to the team.
Now the team is setup, go to Bob's record from the "Employees" option on the main menu and click on the "Edit Details" button to access the current permissions. In the list of team permissions, you can now select the "Can approve" options for the newly created team, giving Bob access to approve for only those employees.
